It may seem counterintuitive to use oil on your face, but oil is a powerful beauty tool that has been used for ages! Often times they have anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and antioxidant properties.
With that said not all oils are created equal. They all have different properties and some clog pores where others won't clog at all. There is a rating system called the comedogenic scale that rates ingredients and how likely they are to clog pores. This article is one of the most thorough articles on where oils fall on this scale (Take note of where coconut oil falls on this scale! Hint: It's not good).
A few of my favorite oils:
Almond Oil: You know I LOVE almond oil, so I couldn't leave it out, but actually almond oil is fantastic for the face as well especially if you have dry skin. It is high in Vitamin A which improves cell turnover!
Jojoba Oil: Here's a fun fact! Jojoba oil isn't even oil at all! It's a wax ester and is the closest thing to human sebum on planet earth. This makes it ideal for oily skin. When you put it on your skin it balances the oil production resulting in less oily skin despite the fact you just put oil on it, crazy right!?
Grapeseed Oil: This oil is a natural astringent, has antimicrobial properties and is only a 1 on the comedogenic scale. This makes it the perfect oil for acne-prone skin.
Rosehip Oil: If you haven't added rosehip oil into your skin routine now is the time! It has proven anti-aging benefits
A study worth reading.
